# NACE classification

> NACE / SK NACE industry classification assigned to Slovak companies by company ID through a REST API.

NACE is the European classification of economic activities. It translates free-text business activities into a standardised code that lets companies be compared and segmented.

## What the register contains
- Code of the principal economic activity
- Activity name per the classification
- Placement within the parent section of the classification

## Fields we return

| Field | Meaning |
| --- | --- |
| `nace_code` | Classification code, e.g. 62.01. |
| `nace_description` | Name of the economic activity. |

## How to request the data

```http
GET /v1/company/ico/51636549?scope=all
{
  "nace_code": "62.01",
  "nace_description": "Computer programming"
}
```

## How often we update

The classification itself changes rarely, its assignment to companies continuously. We refresh on a slow regular cycle, because this is a slowly changing attribute.

## What it is used for

Segment customers by industry without parsing free-text business activities. In a CRM it drives campaign targeting; in analytics it lets you compare a company against its industry average.

In risk assessment the industry is context – identical financial figures mean one thing in construction and something else in a software business.

## Frequently asked questions

### How is the code assigned?

It derives from the business activities recorded in the register. Where a company has several activities, the code represents the principal one.

### Is this the same as SK NACE?

SK NACE is the Slovak version of the European NACE classification. The codes are compatible, so they can be used for cross-border comparison.
