# Enforcement authorizations

> Enforcement authorizations issued against a company including ECLI, case number, court, bailiff and the claim enforced. Available by company ID through a REST API.

An enforcement authorization means a court has authorised a bailiff to enforce a claim against an entity. It is the most concrete public evidence that someone is pursuing a debt against the company through the courts.

## What the register contains
- Whether active authorizations exist against the entity
- Total number of active authorizations
- ECLI, case number and the issuing court
- Bailiff name, the claim enforced and the creditors

## How often we update

Bulk import weekly, detail enrichment daily. The list of authorizations is refreshed as a whole once a week and individual details are filled in continuously every day.

## What it is used for

An active authorization alone does not disqualify a company – disputes arise over legitimate claims too. Combined with insurer arrears, though, it paints a different picture than a single record.

For law firms the list is a fast way to see who is already enforcing against a counterparty, and on what scale, without trawling individual courts.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does an authorization mean the company does not pay?

It means a court authorised a bailiff to enforce. The underlying reason may be a disputed claim the company is contesting. That is why we return concrete records rather than a score.

### Why does ECLI matter?

Because it uniquely identifies the decision, so the authorization can be traced back in the original register without relying on our matching.
